Favorite Things...
My mother-in-law Irene and I enjoy watching the musical "The Sound of Music". My favorite song is "My Favorite Things". I always thought it was a beautiful thing that we can think of our favorite things when we are sad or frightened and find comfort in them.
..."Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings -- these are a few of my favorite things..."
(Okay, all together now -- ready, steady, go!)
..."When the dogs bite and the bees stings, when I'm feeling sad -- I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel soooo bad."
Here are just a few of my favorite things:
Danny Kaye (I have been in crush with him for as long as I can ever remember. I love his movies and have every one on DVD. Don't worry my husband knows and is okay with it! Not like he had much of a choice.) :)
Wooded Walking Trails
Blue Birds
The Monkees (Who was your favorite? Mine was definitely and always has been Mike with the knitted cap. Also favorite Beatle: John Lennon, although there is a soft spot for Ringo.
Favorite Book: The Country of the Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett.
(I have a ritual of re-reading this book every year. It contains so much womanly wisdom and the characters are drawn with such empathy. I think we may have been "kindred spirits" as Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables might say. )
Autumn Leaves
A Sky - Painted with Color and Light
Yarn
Pine Needle Baskets
(This is my pine needle basket that I bought from an artist in South Carolina. I think it is one of the most beautiful things I own.
Canopy of Trees
(This is one of the back roads to my house. I often go out of my way to drive down it, especially in the late morning when the light hits the leaves just right.)
Cotton Fields in Full Bloom
(The cotton is already starting to pop up. It will be at its peak in the next 2 - 3 weeks. Every year I drive around to look at fields.)
Last but not least...
My husband wearing his cowboy hat, especially with a suit, as it has that whole J.R. Ewing vibe going on. What can I say after 37 years he still, makes my heart flutter when he walks in the room! Still my most favorite thing of all.
