Five of My Favorite YouTube Channels
I don't know if you are like me, but these days, I find very little on television that I enjoy watching. Apart from my own movie and tv show collection, today's tv is just a little too violent, and too explicit for my taste. My 25 year old niece Chelsea, told me once that all she watched were YouTube videos. I thought why not come into the 21st. century and give it a try.
At first glance it kind of felt like the Wild West of tv. Then I stumbled on the "custom feed" feature at the top left hand corner of the page. It allows you to make a long list of all the different things you are interested in. Then YouTube begins recommending corresponding videos. It takes out all the guess work. Immediately, I found a wide variety of videos that sounded interesting to watch.
If someone had told teenage me back in the 70's that real people would be making their own tv, and that sometimes it is even better than the studios, I would never have believed it!
So here a just five of my many favorites:
1. B. Dylan Holis
He is a quirky, energetic, young man who loves to collect vintage recipes and recreates them for the modern kitchen. He has two cookbooks out and I have them both. I made this chocolate potato cake following his recipe and it was a big hit. I also appreciate how he finds workable substitutions for those items no longer made in our day and age, or that make the original recipe more palatable to modern tastes.
2. Cecilia from Svalbard
She usually posts a long video on Sunday and I never miss them. She lives on the remote island of Svalbard in the Arctic with her husband Christopher and her dog Grim. She is also a professional videographer and her videos are absolutely stunning.
She often just records her day to day life living in their beautiful home not far from the small village. She also does videos of Christopher, who is a trained chef cooking traditional Scandinavian food. Sometimes they can be seen traveling across the island on snow mobiles, and showing what life is like living at their new, off grid, vacation cabin on the other side of the island. They also have adventures with Grim, on their boat traveling to glaciers and other beautiful sites.
3. Elise from Elise's Crochet
She is a fun person to watch and her enthusiasm is catching. I find her dedication to the craft, very inspiring. She tries out new crochet tools and patterns, as well as testing many new types of yarn. Her videos are very helpful and her advice spot on. I appreciate the positive spin she puts on everything and her sense of humor.
4. The Holderness Family
I stumbled onto their videos back during the pandemic. Penn Holderness is the father and he has a powerful singing voice and does parody videos on many subjects along with his beautiful wife and kids. One year, as a couple they won the tv show "The Amazing Race". His lyrics are always so clever, and laugh out loud funny. The videos just keep getting better and better. Nothing is too silly and yet they are so relatable.
5. Jerry from Pressure Luck Cooking
This is one of my favorite channels. He is just a guy in his kitchen with an Instant Pot. Yet, he has created some of the tastiest recipes we have ever tried.
Learning to cook with an Instant Pot has been a game changer for me. As someone who struggles with challenging levels of chronic pain, anything that saves me time and energy, and allows me to continue doing the things I enjoy, is an important asset to my life.
I have watched a gazillion Instant Pot videos. Jeffery stands out, not only because he is pleasant to watch but his delicious recipes have come out well for me every time. He has thought out in advance, the best way to layer the ingredients so that each item stays flavorful and cooks to its best potential. I have never tried a recipe of his that we didn't enjoy. This is our favorite:
I hope that you enjoyed my list. If you like this post and the idea of having more Youtube recommendations in the future, just let me know in the comments and I will include more from time to time. Do you have a favorite channel you would like to share? I would love to hear about it!
As Always, have a
safe and lovely weekend ahead!
Love,
Delisa
